Bawn & Latton News - 28th February 2010

Last Thursday morning (17th February 2010)  the news filtered through the Community of the untimely death of the late Brian Ruth, Lacken. The entire community was in a state of shock & devastation. Brian was born and reared on the Caslteblayney  Road, Carrickmacross, but from the age of seven he spent his weekends in Lacken with his uncle Jim Duffy where he helped on the farm and developed a love of the countryside. Brian continued to farm the Duffy farm after his Uncles death six years ago, he was a keen and progressive farmer. Brian and his partner Martina lived in a new house and this house carried on a tradition that was always at Duffy’s, a welcoming friendly home and everyone that knew Brian loved and respected him. He was a jolly pleasant caring person who was known for his helpfulness and the phrase used about him was “if he couldn’t do you a good turn he surely wont do a bad one”. Brian worked with Malachy Mc Connon for the past 23 years, a dedicated employee and another passion of Brian’s was rally driving. Brian and his neighbour in Carrickmacorss, Gerard Mc Givney, co-piloted all over Ireland. These weekends were treasured by Brian as was a good game of cards. On Sunday Brian was laid to rest in Bawn. His funeral was the largest in living memory, a testimony to the great character he was and his achievements in such a short life.  To his partner Martina, his Daughter Rachel, Parents Paddy and Peggy, his Brother Pauric, Sister Martina and Rosemary, in laws, nieces and nephews, large circle of friends, his rally mates especially Gerard, his employer, we offer our sincerest sympathy and that God will comfort and console you in the lonely days ahead, and we will all remember him with thanksgiving for the lovely person he was. May he rest in eternal peace.
